However ...

this movement under the Libertas flag , a similar or another one , with or without Ganley is about to be born . The real reasons have existed before Libertas and the present EU leaders are drifting for some time now to less and less democracy . European people are not satisfied with them
It will not be sufficient to accuse a person only (Ganley) and make Libertas type movements disappear . Democracy can not exist without opposition . More accusations against the so called 'euro-sceptics' nowadays will only increase this opposition , under any flag or title . That's only a beginning

Think about it

fine words kosmopolito...

from an irish perspective libertas remains a curates egg (The expression "curates egg" is something that is partly good and partly bad and as a result entirely spoiled).

Libertas claimed to want more openness and transparency in the workings of the e.u. but ganley as a character comes across as untrustworthy, libertas refused to divulge where their funding came from and during the campaign they resorted to shock tactics such as claiming that the charter of fundamental human rights would lead to 3 year olds being forcibly detained and the death penalty could be introduced.

Happily enough some reputable sources in ireland such as the sunday business post, r.t.e. (national broadcaster) and the irish times have started running in depth pieces on libertas/ganley. From ganleys connections to the neo cons in america to his dealing in iraq trying to claim a license to provide mobile phone communications he comes across as a very unsavory character.

Basically libertas are cash rich but have no supporters or positive policies. If and when they run political candidates and are examined on this basis they will be exposed as the empty chancers that they are.

Empty vessels make the most noise

Yes, I did notice that ;-)

Anyway interesting topic to follow. The problem of being "anti-establishment" is of course that you might only compete with other fringe groups especially if there is not a wide spread mood for a protest vote!

Maybe it is a wake up call for the other parties to start campainging Europe wide and make the EP elections a truly European event. Of course this would also require that the parliament has the right to nominate the Commission president. But that is another story...

And 3 of the Libertas followers are Stefan, Nosemonkey and I... :-)

I think you're right in your analysis - how well he manages to carry on playing the anti-establishment thing will be the key to whether or not this works. But don't hold your breath.
